Cancer is one of the most terrifying words in our society today. It is one of the most prolific diseases in the USA, affecting 1 in 2 males in their lifetime, killing 1 in 4. With statistics as real and as scary as those, it is about time that people started considering how to protect themselves more efficiently from The Big ‘C’.
While there are treatments to help cure cancer, we need to ask ourselves how we can be responsible for our own prevention. This comes through two main avenues: diet and exercise. We are in control of how we move our bodies and what we put into them, so this should be the first step toward protecting ourselves from the silent killer of cancer. With a rise in processed foods and an increased use of fertilizers and herbicides, it is no wonder that cancer is running rife.
So what should we be eating to try and stop cancer in its tracks?
- Garlic
Garlic is not only easy to find, it is a staple of deliciousness for many household dishes we cook in our own kitchens. Garlic is a powerhouse of a sulfur compound called allicin, which is the main anti-carcinogenic property in it. Allicin is an antibacterial agent that helps to fight of infections that may damage the cells, causing them to mutate. Furthermore, it helps to repair DNA and reduce cell proliferation, meaning that cells do not mutate in an unusual fashion. Allicin also has the ability to halt components which cause cancer in the system. Amusingly, this slufur compound is the very thing that makes garlic smell, meaning that stinky garlic breath is the sign of someone on the road to health. In order to increase the enzyme activation in garlic that gets allicin working, peel the garlic and let it sit for 15 minutes before cooking it.
- Green tea
Green tea is a super cancer preventing agent and the Japanese swear by it. Considering they have a very low rate of cancer compared to the USA, maybe we should be listening. Green tea is chock full of anti-oxidants, which help to prevent the onset of cancer. Furthermore it is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Where infections tend to try and make their way into the system through the stomach, damaging cells and leading to a risk of bowel cancer, green tea helps to stamp this out from the get go, flushing the system and helping the digestive system and boosting the immune system through the gut to jump on top of any irregularities.
- Lemons
Many people will talk about how people should eat an alkaline diet to prevent the onset of cancer. Oddly, lemons can help with this even though they may seem to be the epitome of acid. However, when lemons are fully metabolized, their minerals release and they become an alkalizing agent for the body. Equally, they are high in Vitamin C, which is a known (and very effective) alternative treatment for cancer.
- Broccoli
Broccoli is high in a phytochemical called glucosinlates, which helps the stomach to produce one of the most protective enzymes called sulforaphane. This enzyme is anti-microbial and is able to detoxify harmful substances for the body, helping to protect against cancer by attacking the H. pylori bacterium.
If you would rather be the 1 out of the 2 that doesn’t develop the terrifying disease, start by eating a more cancer preventative die, enhancing it with vitamins and minerals found in supplements like ‘Ultimate Man once a day’, to really kick cancer out the door.
